Iran to commercialize nuclear tech: Salehi

QOM, Sep. 01 (MNA) – Head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization said on Monday that Iran aims to commercialize nuclear technology.

In addition to moving forward, Iranian nuclear industry will have business financial justification, said Ali-Akbar Salehi Vice-President and Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI).

The official made the remarks in the opening ceremony of the new access road to Fordow nuclear site on the vicinity of the holy city of Qom.

Defending the nuclear activities of the Islamic Republic of Iran after the Islamic Revolution of 1979, Iran’s nuclear chief added that prior to the revolution, the former regime spent 2.5 billion dollars on Bushehr nuclear power plant while the Islamic Republic completed the project with $1.5 billion.

Salehi also broke the news of drafting a 15 year vision plan for Iran’s nuclear energy allowing revision every 5-year.

He said that two new power plants will be established in Bushehr and early contract to that end has been signed with Russians and they will even contribute to the financing part of the job.

The vice-president added that the two power plants will generate 1,000 megawatts electricity each along with 250,000 to 350,000 cubic meters of sweet water for Bushehr province.

He said Iran has talked with the Chinese on construction of new 100 megawatt power plants because small power plants are the favorite of the developing states.

Salehi visited Beijing on August 26 and held talks with Xu Dazhe, Head of China’s Atomic Energy Authority, on the construction of new nuclear plants by China in Iran. They also agreed that the construction of such plants alongside 1000-megawatt power plants could cover Iran’s need for nuclear electricity.
